Hey everyone whats up..Ok I just installed slackware on my windows xp machine. I turn on the computer and LILO loads up, and i select Linux. It loads, and I come to "darkstar login:" so I type root and hit enter. Now, how do I get to slackware and out of this ugly black and white shell?! sorry, first time for linux :) is there a command I have to type?

Try typing "startx." if that works, go from there.

You can use NDISWRAPPER for loading windows drivers on linux.
After you have that installed, you could type the following in Konsole:
modprobe ndiswrapper (Loads the ndiswrapper)
iwconfig wlan0 key YourWEPKeyHere (If you don't need a WEP key ignore this)
dhcpcd wlan0 (Gets you an IP or something, thats all I can see it doing)
xwmconfig would also let you choose between window managers

Strictly speaking, you don't. That shell
is (part of) Slackware. Although I won't deny it's nice to run more than one shell in parallel (via Konsole (http://konsole.kde.org/) or multiple xterm (http://packages.debian.org/xterm)s), I strongly advise you to get used to using the shell. Linux (http://www.kernel.org/) has come a long way in being WIMP (http://www.science.uva.nl/~mes/jargon/w/wimpenvironment.html)-friendly in the last couple of years, but shells are and likely always will be more powerful than their corresponding GUIs.
Tazo, I would advise against using ndiswrapper. If you can find a driver for your product (vendor-provided is nice) you should use that instead.
I wouldn't use ndiswrapper if Microsoft would get off there butts and write a linux driver for their wireless cards. :P

Ok, I found my driver on the belkin website ( Here (http://web.belkin.com/support/download/download.asp?download=F5D6050&lang=1&mode=) ). In NDISWRAPPER, it says to do -i filename.INF, or filename.SYS. There are no .sys or .inf files on the cd or in the driver download! What do I do!
Search on google for "* Slackware Drivers" where * is your cards product name.
If you cant find any, search your cd for the windows ones.
does that ndiswrapper work for sound drivers?
there is no decent sound driver for SBLive, they just have sbpro and the sblive can emulate pro.. but it sounds like shit

Ok I installed something else that had the linux drivers for my model. Only problem is, I cant figure out iwconfig mode !
On my Windows Computer, it gives me an option for Ad-Hoc or Infrastructure. I select infrastructure, which is what my router is configured for. However, there is no mode named 'Infrastructure' on iwconfig (on slackware). there is like master, managed, ad-hoc, and a couple other things..Does anyone know what the equivalent of Infrastructure would be for iwconfig (mode)?
I tried managed, which looked closest to infrastructure, but it said No Signal Available or Signal Out of Range or something..And when I scanned for wireless networks, it found none ???
where did you get the driver?
i have the original SB Live!
last i checked they didnt actually support it (just SBPro emulation)
i didnt find any for 5.1 either (not on creative's site)
