Title: Contest!
Post by: iago on May 27, 2005, 05:36 PM
I did this for my clan, but nobody has been able to do it so let's try it here :)

Here is the starting page:
http://www.javaop.com/~iago/contest-8675309.html

The goal is to find the end page.  There is a prize.  I have some hints about the second level which I'll post here in a couple days (unless you want to see them at www.x86labs.org/forum).

Good luck! :)

Just as I noticed and wanted to scream at everyone else at x86's forum, THAT'S THE POINT.

Hint: have you noticed that the page is an IIS error page and that iago is not really a Microsoft fan?

That's one of the first things I noticed after iago posted it at the x86 board.

I actually stole that idea from Thing.  But the rest was mine :)

I thought the email address would auto-reply with something interesting :(. then I realized it was dodgeit.

I thought the same thing dxoigmn.

Here is what iago posted on the x86 forum in reference to the email.

QuoteFROM: [email protected]
TO: [email protected]

Greetings, John Sparc

I am from a small online church, and I'm here to
inform you that we want you to have fun
while doing your part
to ensure that less fortunatee
people have homes
that they can call their own.  Trust
me, you'll feel much better knowing that people are happy.

I just want you to know that I really am
on your side, and, although you might not believe, I
really am trying to help.  So please, can
you take a moment to listen to me
and hear what I have to say.

I am from a small country near Charleton
which is in the country of Urgandu
near the Pacific Ocean.  My church is on main/
5th street, in the absolute worst part
of the city.  Why? We always try to save
our money for people who need it, in our charties
rather than wasting it on a habitat
for us.   For a very small donation, you too can help
the less fortunate.  One man from Alabama
gave us only $40, and got a hug
for his generosity.  Wouldn't you love
to get that? I know I would.

If you are willing to donate, or even just wish
us good luck, please don't
hesitate to reply.  God loves you, and I hope you are blessed by Him

- Reverant John Chammel

Yeah, I posted the message because dodgeit is pretty flaky.

Anyway, here are the hints I posted on x86, maybe you guys can make more use :) [note: like hismajesty, I did black-on-black]

QuoteLet's summarize the hints for level 2:
- The lines are weird lengths
- I picked the proper names ("Sparc", "Chammel", "Charleton", "Ugandu", and "Alabama") for a reason
- I chose "main/5th" for a reason

Now, here's another hint that should help a lot:
- Notice that all the proper names I mentioned ("Sparc", "Chammel", "Charleton", "Ugandu", and "Alabama"), they are all at the end of lines.

That (http://www.javaop.com/~iago/contest-8675309.html)'s not a 404. This (http://www.javaop.com/~iago/contest-8675308.html) is a 404.

What did I win?

I have yet to reveal the prize.  But I'm hoping that nobody overseas wins, because then I'll end up having to pay for overseas shipping :P

Contest over, it's been one by Zorm!

I'll think about having a new one in the future.  I'll think of something a little simpler, though :)

(see the x86 forum post for the game-breaking hint)

I don't get it.

Is it a picture of a hedgehog?

"badgerbadgerbadger HEDGE HOG" makes very little sense to me.

No, the last page says "post this as a reply to the thread to prove you've been here:"

How about an explanation.
Title: Re: Contest!
Post by: iago on May 30, 2005, 08:28 PM
Sure:

Quote
1. Fake 404 page, email address is [email protected].  Go to dodgeit.com and check email.
2. Last character in every line spells "contest.mine.nu/testpage.html"
3. Fake "bandwidth exceeded" page -- view source for rot13-encoded url
4. Fake your referer with a FireFox plugin (RefSpoof I think) or by using telnet to send the request
5. Password is hidden on the line "<script src=JavaScript></src>"

k so I got to #1 and that's it! :(

I got up the referer, then I tried to use microsoft search to get onto the site, but of course it told me to copy & paste onto the address bar. Silly microsoft, now only if they were as good as google..
