I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I've looked at some IBMs, Dells, & at 1 HP; any other suggestions on what to get that is under $1,500? K, thnx!
12-inch Powerbook G4 ($1,499) :)
Or wait a few months for the G5.

Wow I love you, you like Macs!
Uh, the iBook is a nice machine aswell, I believe they start at $999. You can always order parts such as RAM from Apple if you were looking to upgrade.
Well, I guess I should've said a LAPTOP & left the new part out. I'd like a Windows OS, sorry. Some of the ThinkPads or Inspirons are looking nice... Any experience with those? Also, weight is not an issue, I'd like a 14" monitor, at least.
I just bought a T42, love it. The screen is 14.1 but to a person, everyone I ask how big my screen is guesses from 15" to 17". Very happy with it. Pentium M 1.7 Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD. Bought mine through newegg.com because I have done successful hassle-free business with them before, and their price was among the lower ones. The $60 difference between them and the lowest was not worth the risk of going with an unknown reseller.
Thanks Grok! Was buying straight from IBM more than newegg? I love our old IBM. 1996 Aptiva or something, lasted forever!..until we got our new computer about 2 years ago.
This IS looking nice:

Why settle for an iBook if his price range is good enough for a Powerbook? I plan on getting the 12 inch iBook in a few months, I'm opting for the $999 one that way I can spend money on other cool apple things (Airport and such.)

That looks good except for the video card. If you're not planning to play some of the new games out then it'll work fine.
Hmm I have used my uncles IBM ThinkPads since he owns a computer store, they are overall pretty nice machines and they look cool too. They aren't too heavy and used ones start at like 300+.

The love is warm.
I want to get a PowerMac G5 in the months ahead.
As for upgrading, you should be warned that Apple's prices on everything (from the machines themselves to the
upgrades) are generally bumped up a fair bit.
Yeah but their tec is so much better than pcs and stuff. They look great too! New RAM should be around 100 dollars to order though.
Their 'tec?'
eww to Apple.....looks too PRETTY. I like ugly computers, like my women.

Haha.. I'm using my monitor I bought with my Aptiva at this very moment. It gives me shitty resolution, but it works.
Well, I'm reviving the thread cause I'm looking for my graduation present. My parents said they're getting me a laptop & I have $1000 to pick out...I can also use w/e money I want to of my own for this.
I'm going through the IBM NotebookFinder & am finding some good stuff, what I'm wondering really is what sort of processor I might want to try to get. I'd use the laptop for minimal stress activites (typing, videos some times, surfing, chat). Any suggestions as to what processor?
